At the age of thirteen, the hero of A History of Tears has completed a progressive education. He has been close to those who suffer and has devoured all the militant literature that one had to read in the Latin America of the seventies. However, in September 1973, as he witnesses on television the coup against Salvador Allende and the Presidential palace in flames, he tried to cry and found himself dry. This novel re-examines old topics from the seventies (the underground, double lives, sacrifice) in light of a mistaken but fruitful juncture: that of intimate whispers and the racket of politics.
